The inaugural medical camp was for women over 45 years, who had the symptoms for cardiac problems,
was jointly organized by the Healthy Heart Forum, Blood Donors Forum and Councillors of Calicut
Corporation Wards 23, 29, 30 ,31 Palayi at the Kachillat School premises on 20/10/2013.
The camp commenced at 9:00 AM with the following counters:-
Registration Counters – 2 BMI Counters – 4 BP Counters – 4 GRBS Counters – 3
Blood Grouping – 1 Cholesterol Check – 2
Dr Murali Vettath dealt with women who had the possibility of cardiac risks. They were told to take an
ECG and review once again. Those who required further evaluation were told to meet the concerned
doctors.
The Mayor of Calicut Corporation Prof A K Premajam arrived at 10:30 AM to inaugurate the camp. She
was received by the Councillors – Mrs Devaki K, Mrs Kavitha Arun and Mr Koya Moideen, Mr
Hemapalan of the Healthy Heart Forum and Mr Ashok Alaprath of the Blood Donors Forum. The Mayor
was happy that such a camp was being held for women and she hoped that more such camps will be
conducted in the future. Dr Murali Vettath then gave a talk on the urgency for women to be aware of the
symptoms of cardiac risks and the need to take precautions before it was too late. There was a power
point presentation on the subject. He also spoke on the fact that people should be made aware of the
necessity to donate organs. Even now people were not ready to pledge their organs for the needy. Mr
Hemapalan and Mr Ashok Alaprath also spoke.
After this programme the registration for KNOS (Kerala Network of Organ Sharing) and Healthy Heart
Forum began.
The camp concluded at 5:30PM in the evening with a valedictory function where the District Panchayat
President Mrs Kannathil Jameela was the Chief Guest. She thanked Dr Murali Vettath for helping the
Councillors to hold such a unique camp. She urged the women to take heed of the risk factors pointed out
by Dr Murali and she also supported the need to make people aware of the importance of organ donation.
She then distributed KNOS ID cards to over 50 people who had registered at the camp.
Mr Jayaprakash the Camp Co-ordinator then gave the vote of thanks.

Medical Camp 2 conducted by Healthy Heart Forum 2 at Manasseri on 15th December 2013
A medical camp jointly organised by the Healthy Heart Forum, Alliance International, NIT and Swarga Chitra Kala Samskarika Vedi was held at the Manasseri Govt UP School on 15/12/2013.
Mr Moyinkutty C, MLA inaugurated the camp at 9:00 AM. This was followed with a talk by Dr Murali P Vettath on the urgency for people, especially women, to be aware of the symptoms of cardiac risks and the need to take precautions before it was too late. There was a power point presentation on the subject.

About 50% of the people who attended the camp were between 40 and 60 years of age.
42 % of the people had a cholesterol count of 200 and above.

8 out of 146 people were obese. (3 males and 5 women)
The camp wound up at about 1:00 PM. and lunch was served by the organizers.
In conclusion it must be mentioned that this camp was well organized for it to function smoothly.
Medical Camp 3 conducted by Healthy Heart Forum at Narikunni on 16th February 2014
The third medical camp was held at the Kunathaparamba ALP Govt. Upper Primary School, Narikunni on 16/02/2014. It was jointly conducted by Udayam Swayam Sahayam Sangam and the Healthy Heart Forum. An opthalmology camp was also provided by the Malabar Eye Hospital.
The camp was inaugrated with a talk by Dr Murali Vettath on the cardiac risks faced by women above the age of 45 years. He advised these women to be aware of the symptoms and take necessary action.
Dr Sheela of Malabar Eye Hospital spoke on the need to do eye checkups on a regular basis for those above the age of 40.
In attendance: Dr. Murali P Vettath, Dr. A V Kannan, Dr Ismail E T, Dr Sanooj O P, and 20 staff of CVTS Department.

After the various tests the patients were examined by the doctors and given the required advice. Those who had cardiac risk symptoms were told to take an ECG. They were reviewed by Dr Murali P Vettath who advised as per their requirements. The camp concluded at 1:00 PM.
DETAILS
There was a good turnout for the camp with 114 people participating with 53 males ( 46%) and 61 females(54%).
Of the 114 people, 12% had GRBS count above 200. 1.8% had counts of above 300. Those with counts above 400 were 2.7%.
